Thanks Murray for that.

I have now downloaded density 4.4 and will work my way through a couple of examples. Given my concerns about closure would you still recommend I try my data in your program?

You may be able to fit a more finely subdivided model by fitting detection parameters common to multiple 'sessions', thus pooling information.

Does this mean if I sample three times a week for six weeks (18 sessions) and I pool over each week I get 6 sessions? Sorry just trying to unconfuse myself :)

Thank you Murray for your continued replies, I appreciate the time you have taken to answer my questions!!

Wendy,
How many animals did you capture per trapping session and how captures?

Murray,
At one site (Majura) we caught between 0 and 9 animals per session average was 1.12
At the other (Woden) we caught between 0 and 58 average 8.47

Not sure what the rest of the question was but this is my summary for up to summer 2008 (we had one more session in 2009 I haven't summarised yet)
MAJURA:
Season Summer 2006 Spring 2006 Summer 2007 Spring 2007 Summer 2008
Total captures 14 14 17 32 7
Total No unique individuals within season 11 7 4 8 4
Total No new individuals 11 6 3 6 3
Highest No of captures for one individual 2 6 12 8 3
Average No of times an individual is captured 1.27r 2 4.25 4 1.75
Total No individuals from previous seasons - 1 1 2 1

WODEN
Site Summer 2006 Spring 2006 Summer 2007 Spring 2007 Summer 2008
Total No unique individuals within season 208 75 28 11 32*
Total No new individuals 208 40 16 4 28
Highest No of captures for one individual 10 9 12 7 9
Average No of times an individual is captured 2.08 2.28 4.93 2.36 3.28
Total No individuals from previous seasons - 35 12 7 2**

I read somewhere that you recommended recaptures >10 which was clearly not the case for my data :(

Cheers

That was Darryl's question, so I expect he'll chip in, but it looks like you have enough data for SECR - certainly many more than 10 recaptures in total (see FAQ). From your between-season recaptures these seem to be fairly long-lived animals, so closure over 6 weeks doesn't seem improbable.

Sorry Murray about - I thought I was still replying to you

I clearly read the FAQ wrong, I thought it meant on average 10 per animal as a minimum (I thought that was very high). They only live for about a year on average with a few living 2-3 years (although as you may have noticed between season recaptures reduced as time went on (Survival declined)).

Thank you again.
