U-CARE issues

Postby daniel.o31 » Wed Feb 26, 2025 10:16 pm

I am going through Chapter 5 regarding GOF testing. I've downloaded the latest version of UCARE and whenever I go to use it with the example data provided in the program MARK book, U-CARE will essentially instantly crash after I select open. Not sure why this is happening. I have not changed or edited the data whatsoever. HAs this happened to anyone? any advice?

I just did a fresh install of latest U-CARE (3.3) and the needed MATLAB runtime libraries (latest version). Started U-CARE, read in ED_MALES.INP with no problems, and ran all the analyses referred to in Capter 5 (and 10 - the multi-state chapter) with no problems.

So, my first guess is you've either not installed the MATLAB runtime libraries which U-CARE needs, or the libs you have perhaps previously installed are out of date.

Failing that, the problem is *something else* on *your* computer. [And, for future reference, next time you report a 'software problem', understand that a request for help that does not provide full information -- i.e., operating system, versions of various programs, physical hardware attributes of the computer, etc etc -- will largely be ignored.]

Finally, unless you're specifically considering GOF testing for a MS model, then a fair bit of what U-CARE does can be handled in other software (e.g., program RELEASE, median c-hat and Fletcher's GOF statistics in MARK, etc).

Good luck.
