Hi, I'm having a little trouble interpreting the square PIMS output of the POPAN model, and just want to confirm I am interpreting it correctly.
I have animals categorized into year first sighted (cohort), and I am using a phi=~ time+cohort+sex model.
The output of the real parameters shows phi values for the animals before they first entered the population. Do I just ignore this and read it as if it were a triangular PIMS?
Here is the example PIMS. a= cohort first seen in 2001, b= first seen 2002, c=first seen 2003, d=first seen 2004.
2001 2002 2003 2004
a 1 2 3 4
b 5 6 7 8
c 9 10 11 12
d 13 14 15 16
I know the phi value for group c (first seen in 2003) doesn't make sense (alongside the other numbers in red) as in 2001/2 they were not in the population.
Am I correct to just be using the following values (taking the phi value from when the group first entered the population?
2001 2002 2003 2004
a 1 2 3 4
b 6 7 8
c 11 12
d 16
Many thanks,
Tom
