Conduct statistical analyses of population, harvest or habitat data using existing and/or novel statistical approaches. Data analyzed will include those from research and/or management projects relative to population demographics and characteristics, harvest and population surveys to determine population status, trends, and user impacts upon populations, or resource selection studies for a species/species group. The biometrician will implement and/or conduct research to develop model- and sample design-based approaches for estimating population size, analyzing population trends and evaluating or predicting effects of management prescriptions on populations or habitats as part of these duties. Significant time will be dedicated to supervising and coordinating the annual harvest survey process and developing new approaches for conducting the annual survey. Specific harvest survey tasks will include applying existing and developing novel sampling protocols, providing statistical guidance for the extraction of appropriate hunter contact information from the Automated Licensing System database, supervising the survey coordinator and the overall survey process, coordinating the compilation of survey response data into tables for analyses of response data, analyzing data using existing techniques for sample survey analyses and developing novel approaches via original research into statistical methods, generating user-friendly outputs summarizing harvest and hunter effort from these annual surveys, and ensuring that budget constraints are met. Cooperation with programmer analysts and database managers from Information Services will be essential to accomplish these tasks. The biometrician will work closely with the Information Management and Application Development Bureaus to develop new reporting approaches and user friendly displays to present harvest data on the FWP website. Design or conduct research to develop statistical procedures for projects of the Wildlife Division and on occasion other Department programs such as Field Services and Fisheries. This requires consultation with biologists, managers, and other staff to ensure a thorough understanding of the project objectives and appropriate sampling techniques to be implemented in a study protocol. The biometrician will provide appropriate technical advise to FWP personnel on statistical procedures, experimental design, and sampling techniques. These typically include specific recommendations regarding field sampling approach, sample size, number of replicates, choices of existing or development of novel analytical techniques via original research, and potential inferences given study objectives and the resources necessary for conducting the project. The biometrician will provide continuing project support to amend or modify project design after implementation if changes are required in the methodology or if other sampling or biometric problems occur. Perform special assignments as directed from the Directors Office and Wildlife Division, including conducting special projects, participating in special meetings, providing technical counsel, ensuring appropriate scientific input to specific issues, and completing projects for other divisions. These duties typically include writing reports to project leaders, reviewing manuscripts or documents, participating in interagency and intra-agency committees or task forces, reviewing project proposals, and providing written testimony or subject reports on various resource issues.

Annual Salary: $40,000.00 (entry) to $46,900.00 (market). Typically, successful applicants are hired between entry and market depending on qualifications, internal equity, the labor market (supply and demand), and the program's ability to pay. Market is $46,930.00/yr
