Direct and coordinate the growth and integration of the Center for Biostatistics and Modeling with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) - Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) scientific programs.

Provide and oversee statistical consulting services to FWRI research staff. These services include assistance in the design of experiments and surveys to ensure statistically valid results. The incumbent assists in the statistical analysis of data. This assistance may be in the form of recommendations of appropriate statistical methods and software and discussions of relevant statistical issues, or the incumbent will perform analyses and provide written reports. The incumbent also provides assistance in reporting methods and interpreting results of statistical analyses in a form appropriate for reports and manuscripts for publication.

Actively participate in the University of Florida's Program for Environmental Services (PES) and serve as the primary representative for the FWC. The incumbent will manage the existing statistical consulting services contract with the PES and will assist in directing the FWC-funded PES Statistician in his duties. Also provide oversight on the outsourcing of FWC biostatistic projects to ensure that the requested work is understood by the contractor and is carried out in a satisfactory manner.

Supervise staff in the Center for Biostatistics and Modeling, which includes but is not limited to: recruitment, training, planning and directing of work, and ensuring compliance with FWC rules, policies, and procedures.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge in: the areas of experimental design, linear and nonlinear models, generalized linear models, mixed effects models, multivariate methods, survival analysis, sample survey methods, re-sampling techniques, and Monte Carlo simulation. Skills in: at least one major statistical software package (e.g. SAS, S-Plus, R), performing quantitative analysis and modeling of scientific data using appropriate statistical methods and modern graphic techniques. Abilities to: use personal computers running Microsoft operating systems; produce statistical software programs, graphics, summary results, and written documents in a manner that will allow them to be easily shared and edited by other FWC/FWRI staff; work independently; plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments; establish and meet work-related goals; communicate effectively in writing, verbally, and graphically; establish and maintain effective working relationships with research staff and others; and effectively supervise assigned staff.

REQUIRED EDUCATION
At least a Master's degree in Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, or a comparable quantitative discipline. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate education and/or experience with fish and wildlife-related research.
