Title: Data Integration to Estimate Atlantic Red Snapper Abundance

The Postdoctoral Associate will work with a team of researchers at NC State University (Drs. Krishna Pacifici, and Jeff Buckel), USGS NC Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (Dr. Nathan Hostetter), NOAA (Drs. Nate Bacheler and Kyle Shertzer), University of Florida (Dr. Will Patterson), and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (David Portnoy) to estimate red snapper abundance in US Atlantic waters between North Carolina and south Florida. Specifically, the Postdoctoral Associate will 1) develop an integrated population model to analyze paired trap/video, Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), and habitat datasets collected from NC to FL to estimate Red Snapper abundance and the local and regional factors affecting abundance, 2) develop multi-phase and adaptive study designs to inform future sampling, and 3) work with collaborators to compare trapping-ROV abundance estimates to a complementary Close-Kin Mark-Recapture (CKMR) analysis conducted by collaborators. The outcome of the study will be a set of quantitative tools and abundance estimates that can be used to inform management and future monitoring programs. The postdoc will participate in all aspects of research activities and have opportunities to participate in field research and develop their own research ideas in conjunction with the project.
