Agency: Pennsylvania State University
Location: University Park, PA
Job Category: Graduate Assistantship
Salary: Competitive salary, plus tuition and excellent benefits.
Start Date: August 2021

Description: We are seeking an individual to pursue an M.Sc. in space-use and movement
ecology of Canada geese. Canada geese account for more than 50% of the total harvest of
waterfowl within the state of Pennsylvania. However, we know very little about how geese
respond to hunting pressure; understanding behavioral responses to hunting pressure is critical
for optimal management of Canada geese in harvest management areas. In collaboration with
The Pennsylvania Game Commission, the student will participate in summer banding and GPScollaring of Canada geese. The student will then develop models for space-use and movement of
Canada geese that account for varying levels of hunting pressure throughout the year.

Qualifications: Competitive candidates will be highly motivated and possess a B.S. in Wildlife
Biology, Ecology, Zoology, Natural Resources, or related field. Experience with the R
programming language is preferred. Qualified candidates will also demonstrate experience or
interest in applying quantitative methods to aquatic systems.
We particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups in wildlife management
and ecology.

To apply: Send a single PDF that includes a brief cover letter outlining experience and research
interests, curriculum vitae, unofficial university transcripts (a list of relevant coursework and
grades is acceptable), and contact information for two references to Dr. Franny Buderman at
fbuderman@psu.edu. Applications will be accepted until April 2nd.

Contact Person: Dr. Franny Buderman, Assistant Professor, Department of Ecosystem Science
and Management, Pennsylvania State University
