Postdoctoral Research Assistant - Arizona State University

Postby llbailey » Thu Jun 29, 2017 6:15 am

The Science and Mathematics Faculty in the College of Integrated Sciences and Arts on the Polytechnic campus at Arizona State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant. Invasive wild pigs (Sus scrofa) are a growing threat to ecological communities and agricultural resources throughout the United States. Since 2015, we have maintained two local study areas in California and Florida to evaluate wild pig populations using grids of motion-activated cameras and GPS collared animals. In addition, we are working with national-scale data sets comprised of removal and effort information that dates back to 2005. Working across these two scales, we are seeking a highly motivated individual to evaluate (1) trends in wild pig populations through time, (2) impacts of wild pigs to ecological communities and agriculture, and (3) patterns of habitat selection, inter- and intra-specific interactions, and population abundance. To evaluate questions at the local study area, we envision that methods will include multi-season and multi-state occupancy models, mark-resight models, spatially explicit mark-resight models, and mixed-effects resource selection functions. At the broad national scale, we are currently implementing hierarchical Bayesian models and Integrated Population Modeling, which we aim to expand upon in 2017 and 2018. The postdoctoral student will work at Arizona State University in Mesa and interact with a diverse group of collaborators within the USDA, University of Florida, and Colorado State University. Project support is available for at least one year, with the high potential for a second year of support, depending on federal funding. This position is an excellent opportunity to join a team of diverse agencies and stakeholders, produce research results that will be applied to on-the-ground management, and publish novel research findings.

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), benefits-eligible, fiscal, year-to-year appointment. Candidate must reside in Arizona, or be willing to relocate. Renewal is possible on an annual basis for up to two years.
