POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Research Scientist
Biostatistics

Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Madison, WI

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Research Scientist (RS) will work on multiple ecological projects related to the conservation of endangered species. The RS would provide statistical and analytical support for a large laboratory group conducting applied conservation science. Specific projects the RS would support include statistical assessments/analyses of large-scale animal monitoring programs, demographic analyses of long-term datasets, and landscape-scale assessment of resource use. The position is analytically-focused and based at UW-Madison, but opportunities exist for conducting field work during the summer.

REQUIREMENTS: The successful applicant must have obtained their MSc (or PhD) degree by the start date (see below). Applicants should have a strong background in biostatistics, quantitative ecology, or a closely related discipline. Strong statistical, programming, and GIS skills are essential, and experience in population analysis (e.g., mark-recapture and occupancy models) is preferred. Proficiency in the use of R for simulation analyses and Python for automating GIS analyses is also preferred. The RS must be able to work both collaboratively within a dynamic team setting and recognize the fluid nature of applied conservation science.

APPOINTMENT AND SALARY: The position will be available August 1, 2017. The duration of the appointment is 2 years, with the possibility of a 3rd year pending funding levels. Salary will be $45,000 and the position includes health insurance.

APPLICATION/CONTACT INFORMATION: Applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references in a single pdf-file to Dr. Zach Peery at mpeery@wisc.edu. The CV should contain a list of publications and information describing relevant skills and experience. Reviews of material will begin June 15, 2017 and will continue until a suitable candidate is found.
