Quantitative mammal ecology using large citizen science datasets.
Starting January or Fall 2017 (flexible)
1 MS and 1 PhD position at NC State University Wildlife Program
Working with Dr. Roland Kays and Dr. Krishna Pacifici

Graduate student opportunities in quantitative ecology for wildlife management. This project will work with data from a new state-wide citizen science camera trapping project, one of the largest of its kind. The students will use data fusion modeling techniques to integrate different data types to test ecological hypotheses. Successful applicants will have strong quantitative ecology skills and interests. Students will integrate large data sets to address questions about the interactions between coyotes and deer, and have opportunities to explore their own research questions on other species as well. The students will spend time in the Biodiversity Research lab at the North Carolina Museum of Natural sciences where they will have opportunities to develop their science communication skills. Their work will directly inform management and conservation through the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, who is funding this work.
