Post-doctoral researcher in statistical ecology
The Department of Ecology, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden, is looking for a post-doctoral researcher to work with development of statistical modelling techniques and analysis in applications to population dynamics. Suggested research topics include developing and applying hierarchical multivariate models to population data from the Swedish Breeding Bird Survey to study population and community trends across space and time. The survey currently spans 20 years and 700 surveyed sites on a regular grid covering Sweden. Another possible research topic is modelling and analyzing the effects of environmental variability on the population dynamics of wheatears (Oenanthe oenanthe) using detailed demographic and population data from a 24 year study run within the research group.
Duties: Work with the development, and application, of statistical models for analyzing population data. The applicant is expected to work in collaboration with the research team, to independently analyze data, and to write scientific papers.
Qualifications: We are searching for a person with a great interest in the development and application of statistical methods for analyses of animal population dynamics. For applicants to be considered, a PhD in Ecology, Statistics, or equivalent, and experience in working with ecological population data, statistical analysis, and with statistical software such as R, JAGS or Stan are required. Knowledge and experience of computational statistical methods, such as MCMC, is a merit. Skills in scientific writing within the subject area will be given emphasis in the evaluation. Emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as collaborative skills as well as an ability to work independently. Proficiency in English is another important merit.
Form of employment: Temporary employment for 2 years.
Application deadline: April 13
