The Columbia Mountains Institute is offering a 3-day course on spatially explicit capture–recapture (SECR) at Selkirk College, Castlegar, British Columbia, on 5–7 July 2016 (instructor Murray Efford).

The aim of this course is to give participants a practical understanding of SECR and its limitations through the experience of fitting models with the R package ‘secr’. Topics to be covered include:

- concepts and assumptions underlying SECR
- data preparation and checking
- model fitting and evaluation
- study design

Advanced topics will be included as requested.

The course fee is CND$575. Reasonably priced accommodation is available on campus.

See the CMI website for further information (http://cmiae.org/event/spatially-explicit-capture-recapture-secr-modeling/) or contact Murray Efford directly.
