UCARE crashes when I try to load my .INP file

Postby bootzies » Fri Aug 08, 2014 4:47 am

Hello All - I hope that you can help....

I have been having the same problem as reported in these two previous posts:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1332
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2752&p=8766&hilit=U+CARE&sid=e856ef5026b2a552e9c3bfdbf83f3a68#p8766

I have tried the solutions suggested in these posts, but I am still having the same problem of U-CARE crashing (?) – or at least closing very quickly after I try and load my .INP file.

The .INP file only contains the encounter histories (multistate coded with numbers) and no grouping or individual covariates. I have checked that each line is the same length (30). There are no comments or characters in the file (only numbers). I would like to run a goodness of fit test on the ‘general’ model for the multistate (Jolly Move) model, i.e. the time and state dependent model for all three parameters.
I managed to get a screen grab of the error message given by UCARE. This flashes up on the screen only momentarily, before the programme completely closes down. I get the same response if I try the ‘verify’ mark format option in the file menu.

The error message I get says:
"Attempted to access v(1); index out of bounds because numel(v)=0
Error in r_mark (line 44)
Error in U_CAREV2_3 (line 405)
MATLAB:badsubscript"

I have managed to load the dipper data from the MARK file called ‘DIPPER.INP’ – but I did need to delete the first two rows of comments in the file before it would load successfully. As there are no comments in my own data file; I am at a loss as to what the problem is! Please can you help?!

The head of my text (.INP) file is copied below. Note that I have copied the first 100 lines, which contains the row (44) whcih the error message refers to...... The actual file has 5848 individual encounter histories, each with 30 entries. I have also tried the same data input file with a ";" at the end and with a space and then a ";" at the end and still get the same error.

Hello,
the number of individual sharing the same history is missing at the end of each line.
The format is :
1002341 1;
0134000 2;
..........

Can you give advice on how to add the column of numbers of individuals with the encounter history to my encounter history file?

Thank you

Nevermind, I just added a column of 1s at the end of my encounter histories with a space before them and a ; after, then concatenated. This works for individual layout.

Hi all,

About .INP file, there is a useful appendix in the MARK Book on how formatting data using Excel "Addendum: generating .inp files" at the end of Chapter 2 (http://www.phidot.org/software/mark/docs/book/pdf/chap2.pdf) using pivot table and concatenate function.

Cheers,

Guillaume
