M-Surge : numbering of status

Postby Guillaume Souchay » Wed Feb 27, 2008 8:30 am

Hello,

I'm a beginner with M-Surge. For my study about survival probalitity in greater flamingo, I have 4 status, each one for one site. I've 10 cohorts: each cohort is the batch of flamingos marked the same year (at their birth). I have 25 occasions of capture : 2 by year (summer + winter, e. g., summer 1995 + winter 1995).

1) I'm thinking about the numbering because each cohort has a "1" at the beginning and I'm not sure to have the right to attribut "1" for a site.

2) My second question is about an age-effect. I want 2 age-classes : 1 year-old and the other, so can I write a(1 2, 3:25) ? For the first cohort, I think it's right but I'm not sure for the others.

thank you,
Guillaume

Concerning:

1) I'm thinking about the numbering because each cohort has a "1" at the beginning and I'm not sure to have the right to attribut "1" for a site.

I don't really understand the question.

2) My second question is about an age-effect. I want 2 age-classes : 1 year-old and the other, so can I write a(1 2, 3:25) ? For the first cohort, I think it's right but I'm not sure for the others.

It is correct if you think that for the first year, survival for the first period is the same than the survival for the second period.

Thanks for the second answer.
For the first one I'm trying to say it in a better way : in my data, I've set "1" when the birds have been marked (at their birth). After, I would like to set "1" for a site (Camargue in my study). I was thinking if this numbering could bring to a "conflict". Then, is it better to number the site of study from 2 to 5 (because of 4 locations).

Thanks

Normally, you should give the number of the site at which the individual is first capture.
