Survival with recapture and resight data

Postby alexiscerezo » Thu Jan 20, 2022 3:02 pm

Dear all,

I have a 10-year dataset for estimating survival probabilities that has both recapture and resight data. Can anyone orient me whether the two re-ecounter data types can be combined to estimate survival probabilities?

Many thanks,

Alexis

Hi Alexis:

Your options for modeling apparent survival might depend on where your resighting data have been collected. If both recapture and resighting data both come from the same focal study area, you might combine both to build the encounter histories with the L data format and use a CJS model on the combined data. If the recapture data come from a focal study area but the resighting data are taken from a wider region, you could use the LD data format and use a Barker model to jointly model the separate data sources.

Good luck, Brett.
