Using frequency of animal vocalisations as covariate

Postby leroy » Wed Aug 09, 2017 9:59 am

Hi,

I am trying to estimate occupancy for animals and am using their vocalisations as a means of detecting their presence across the landscape. Over a 14-day period (14 repeat visits), some sites have few vocalisations while others have many more.

I was wondering whether I should account for this descrepancy in frequency of vocalisations when calculating detection probability? I would look to use mean number of vocalisations per day as a covariate. Presumably the more vocalisations at a site, the greater the probability of detection.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Leroy.
