Normalization of covariates used in PRESENCE

Postby hwaddle » Fri Nov 09, 2007 1:47 pm

Can someone please give me a quick explanation of how PRESENCE does the covariate normalization? I would like to do it in Excell or R to use outside of PRESENCE for an analysis we are trying to do in WinBUGS. Sorry for such a boring question, but I want to make sure we are doing the same thing, and I cannot find documentation on how exactly the normalization is performed.

Thanks,

covariate normalization in presence

To normalize a covariate, PRESENCE computes the mean (X), and std.error (se), then computes the normalized value as (x(i)-X)/se.

For the record, this is now described, along with much else, in the online "book" for Presence:
