Royle Nichols should I use it? Is a camera trap survey

Postby Roxann » Sat Sep 15, 2018 8:37 pm

Hello everyone. So Im working with my data for jaguars using camera traps. And I wanted to use occupancy models, the thing is I know the assumption of independency is violated because I have more than one jaguar in diferent cameras, my cameras are from 2 to 4km appart and more than real occupancy I have estimates about the use of the space.

The thing is about if i can use Royle Nichols model for the abundancy, using just presence and absence of jaguar without identifyng them, and if I dont have independency between my cameras, could i use lambda as an index of the relative abundance? Should i use lambda / effective area or should I use lambda/ the 9km2 that has each of the units where the cameras where placed? How accurate would this index would it be.
Any suggestions?
