Repeat count data with negative binomial distribution

Postby Pelobate » Tue Nov 10, 2015 8:36 am

I have a modeling problem with Royle repeat count data estimate in Presence software.

I want to use negative binomial distribution. But I don’t understand the meaning of the parameters u and a. Could you help me ?

Thanks,

u=mu, and a=alpha in the Royle-Nichols Ecology paper. They are the parameters of the negative binomial distribution, such that:

E[N] = \mu,

Var(N) = \mu + \frac{{\mu}^2}{\alpha}

where N=number of individuals available for capture at a site.
