Transience in Jolly Seber-POPAN ?

Postby jaas0991 » Mon Aug 19, 2024 5:27 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to do something similar to the "age" models explained in chapter 7 of the MARK book to the Jolly Seber or POPAN. My data results from R2Ucare show transcience. So now I'm trying to incorporate transience using the 'age model' example to improve my abundance estimation using the POPAN model.

My problem is I can't do it, as the PIMS for JS/POPAN are linear and not triangular like in the CJS model. I can see from the CJS models that using this strategy leads to results with higher AICc values.

How would I proceed? I see articles where the authors mention that they incorporate a transience effect and get abundance estimates using the POPAN model, but I'm at lost at how they do it.

I'm working with a whale population that was sampled 8 times, without covariates.

Thank you,
