How to setup PIM chart - Robust design with unequal prob cap

Postby AndrewM » Thu Feb 16, 2017 10:39 pm

Hi
Have a sampling of turtles sampled over 4 seasons. The turtles are caught in fyke nets, tagged and released downstream of net, thereby reducing their potential of capture for subsequent days of the secondary sampling - then available for the next primary sampling. How is this best represented in the PIM chart for the model?

Thanks

Andrew

What you are looking for is an age model within seasons. Then the cohort of captures from each season would have a similar recapture probability starting with the next season. Whether those individuals are recaptured determine their subsequent capture probability. This is the Time Since Marking model (TSM). The age and cohort models are described in chapter 7 of the manual.

This was a tough concept for me so it might a take some time to learn. But it is really critical to be able to understand how the PIMS relate to the parameter estimates.
